I have been dealing with epilepsy for seven years. My first seizure happened when I was 35. It was on Christmas Day in 2016. My mother found me face down on the floor in my room, but she didn't know what had happened to me at the time. The rest is history, as they say, and It has been like living in a dream ever since.

Living with epilepsy and not knowing where the seizures are coming from is very frustrating. It's challenging when you're used to doing simple things, such as driving your car around, and can't. Months go by, and everything looks fine, and then, out of the blue, another seizure can happen. Every seizure that I have affects my brain worse and worse. My memory is horrible, and that is a big thing that I struggle with.

I wasn't born with epilepsy, and no one in my family has it. Before I was diagnosed with epilepsy, I had mental health issues that I dealt with and am currently still experiencing. Having a solid support system has been helpful, and so is keeping a strong mindset.

Living with seizures and epilepsy has been a journey for me, which is why I decided to share my story. I am learning new things about epilepsy to educate myself, and I have participated in events like the Walk to END EPILEPSY®. Most importantly, I want others to know that if they are facing epilepsy, they are not alone.
